Ferndown Swim School
Swimming classes for mothers and babies
We start babies on their swimming journey from 4 weeks old. Babies this young have a natural affinity with water and we can build on their natural swimming reflexes. Baby swimming is great for so many reasons but highest on our list of priorities is that it not only instills confidence in the water but it also teaches water safety form a young age.
We can't ignore the terrible statistic, that drowning is the the 3rd biggest cause of accidental death amongst the under 5s, making learning to swim a vital life skill. If you start early, you will find your child's water skills stand out at any swimming activity, compared to children that didn't take part in baby swimming.
Here at Ferndown Swim School we teach babies a number of skills to encourage water safety, including back floating, how to hold on to solid objects, how to turn and swim back to where they came from in the event of them falling into water, how to get out of a swimming pool or swim back to safety and how to manage water.
Swimming is great for building strength, it encourages bonding, it grows childrens' confidence and co-ordination and a great bi product of this great weekly activity is all the learning and activity tires babies out, making a good long nap after lessons essential (time for you to have a cup of tea!)
Classes work by age whilst babies are young as follows:
- 0-6 months
- 6-12 months
- 12-18 months
Here at Ferndown Swim School, we welcome everyone, so mums, dads, grandparents or carers are all welcome to take part in your babies swimming journey.
